My home department\u00a0is the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.smith.edu\/anthro\/\" target=\"_blank\">Department of Anthropology<\/a> at\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.smith.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\">Smith College<\/a>, where\u00a0I am also on the Faculty Advisory Committees for the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.smith.edu\/arch\/minor.php\" target=\"_blank\">Archaeology Minor<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.smith.edu\/las\/index.php\" target=\"_blank\">Latin American Studies<\/a>.\u00a0I teach a\u00a0course each\u00a0fall semester at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mtholyoke.edu\/acad\/anthropology\" target=\"_blank\">Mt. Holyoke College<\/a> and one each spring at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amherst.edu\/academiclife\/departments\/anthropology_sociology\" target=\"_blank\">Amherst College<\/a>. There is a vibrant community of archaeologists in the Five Colleges, including faculty at the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.umass.edu\/anthro\/\" target=\"_blank\">University of Massachusetts-Amherst<\/a>\u00a0and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hampshire.edu\/areas-of-study\/anthropology-and-archaeology\" target=\"_blank\">Hampshire College<\/a>.\u00a0There is also a chapter of the <a href=\"http:\/\/aiawesternmass.org\" target=\"_blank\">Archaeological Institute of America<\/a> in Western Massachusetts, which hosts a number of speakers throughout the academic year.<\/p>\n<p>In terms of courses, each fall I teach <a href=\"http:\/\/pukara.org\/?page_id=530\"><em>Introduction to Archaeology<\/em> <\/a>at Smith College and I offer some variety of the following courses throughout the school year:\u00a0<em><a href=\"http:\/\/pukara.org\/?page_id=534\">Archaeology of Food<\/a>;<\/em>\u00a0<em><a href=\"http:\/\/pukara.org\/?page_id=482\">Collecting the Past: Art and Artifacts of the Ancient Americas<\/a>; <a href=\"http:\/\/pukara.org\/?page_id=532\">Archaeological Method, Theory &amp; Practice<\/a>; Native South Americans; The Inca &amp; the Ancestors.\u00a0<\/em>Please contact me if you would like a copy of a syllabus or have questions or comments about the course content. I have also taught an undergraduate and graduate-level archaeological field school at Pukara, Peru (<a href=\"http:\/\/pukarapuno.blogspot.com\/2009\/\" target=\"_blank\">2009<\/a> &amp; <a href=\"http:\/\/pukarapuno.blogspot.com\/2010\/08\/\" target=\"_blank\">2010<\/a>) and look forward to taking students to the field again in the upcoming years.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/pukara.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/2009_field_school_group.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\" size-medium wp-image-359 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/pukara.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/2009_field_school_group-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"2009_field_school_group\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Lastly, students interested in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.saa.org\/Careers\/tabid\/131\/Default.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">pursuing archaeology as a career<\/a>\u00a0should contact professional archaeologists in colleges and universities, museums and other cultural institutions, cultural resource management firms (CRM), and government agencies with questions.
